It’s been a summer of showers for me, baby showers that is! I started my July heading to Kansas to celebrate the newest little girl entering my friend’s family with a Unicorn Baby Sprinkle, then ended my month celebrating one of my other best friend’s first baby with a beautiful Blue Gingham Baby Shower BaByQ for her little boy!
BaByQ’s are an adorable Barbeque themed baby shower trend, which happened to be perfect because my bestie’s last name happens to start with a Q so it became a BaByQ for Baby Q! Classic barbeque and gingham were the vibes of this baby shower, so I had a blast creating a slew of signs and game cards, all bedecked in the signature blue pattern!
DECORATIONS & DETAILS
While I designed a custom welcome sign and some adorable Guest Book and Gift Table Baby Shower signs, my mama-to-be wanted to take the lead and get her own decor, and it was ginghamtastic from beginning to end! While we helped make some cute ribboned fresh flower, lemon, and blueberry centerpieces the morning of the shower, she was all set for her other decorations! She found pretty Gingham Party Tableware and Balloon Sets along with Blue Gingham table covers on Amazon, and even created a cute little ribbon garland to hang along the door leading to the backyard, which hosted a pool party for after the traditional baby shower fun! But before the pool party could commence, there were a bunch of adorable baby themed games to play first!
GAMES & ACTIVITIES
For this shower, my mom-to-be wanted a bunch of the classic baby shower games, so I used it as an opportunity to create cards, stickers, and signs for them all, while also learning all the ins and outs of playing the games myself and adding to my Baby Shower Games & Activities!
As guests entered the house, the games began with each grabbing a clothespin next to its corresponding sign for the ongoing game throughout the shower, Don’t Say Baby Shower Game. As the name implies, guests can’t say “baby” and those who do around cunning guests had their clothespins stolen, with the attendant with the largest number of pins at the end of the shower victorious.
To start off the card game festivities, we started with the classic Candy Bar Guessing Diaper Game, where guests took turns smelling different melted candy bars, cheekily presented in numbered diapers with corresponding game cards that guests would guess what each was, with the most correct being crowned the winner!
Next, guests gathered round to fill out Mommy or Daddy Baby Shower Guess Cards, my favorite of all my card designs! With the future parents using one of the cards to make an answer key before the party started, each guest used these cards to guess the couple’s answer to each baby themed question, and the person who knew the couple best got a prize!
Finally, before the gifts were unwrapped, we finished the trio of card games with the favorite of my mama-to-be, the Baby Food Guessing Game. Similar to the diaper candy bar guessing game, guests gave their best guess on pretty blue gingham game cards for different numbered baby foods, with the most correct answers receiving the last prizes of the day!
While I was busy designing paperie for this party, my bestie went all out creating cute prizes with corresponding blue gingham tags and adorable names, inspiring me with all sorts of ideas for shower prizes for the future!
PARTY GIFTS
Once we were done with games, it was time for the main event, watching the mama-to-be open all of the presents for her new baby! I, of course, included a gift of my own; giving me the perfect opportunity to add a new Breastfeeding and Bottle Bento to my baby shower gift collection!
I started making Baby Shower Bentos a couple years ago for my sister's first baby, but haven’t had an opportunity to make any since, so I chose to design another around bottles, using my friend’s registry and a stainless steel bottle I knew she loved as a centerpiece. Paired with other breastfeeding staples and packed in a dapper gift box, it was both a practical but unique gift that my bestie loved!
FOOD & DRINKS
In true BaByQ fashion, the food and drinks at the shower had to be one thing, picnic and baby inspired! Sub sandwiches, chicken tenders, a watermelon carriage with fruit salad, a blueberry lemonade fountain, and a variety of chips and veggies were the lunch of choice with the star of the show being all the fun baby themed sweets! The couple ordered an adorable cookie cake, with their mothers providing nutter butter babies and marshmallow bottles, and I even contributed a little something myself with some simple sweet treats I baked, flew to Florida, and frosted up for the occasion; some simple blue and white baby onesie cookies! These sweet treats were the perfect way to end the meal, with the added bonus of being a little reminiscent of the couple's wedding favor, which happened to be royal icing frosted cookies too!
After all the tasty food, entertaining games, and oodles of gifts for the happy couple, we cooled off in the pool and spent the rest of the weekend with close friends helping organize all the new things for the newest addition to their family. It was a perfect way to celebrate a wonderful couple entering the next stage of their life and giving their little boy the best blue gingham baby shower Barbeque!
