Easy Essential Oils Mini Bath Bomb Favor Trios
(originally published on November 7, 2017 and updated with new pictures and tutorial details on March 17, 2022)
I love giving away bath supplies as Bridal Shower and Baby Shower Favors, but they are great gifts for any variety of events, so I returned to this tutorial to create a new trio of bath bombs for my latest trip to the beach to visit and catch up with some college friends! This pretty trio was the perfect finishing touch to the Spa Sleepover Gift Boxes I made for each of my friends, being easy to DIY and color customize!
I first made these years ago in orange, yellow, and lavender with corresponding scents; but for this rose, mint, and purple trio, I instead made each bath bomb a mix of two of my favorite essential oils each, giving a little more dimension to the different scents and learning how easily they can be customized for party favors for all sorts of events!
When I first made this project, I wanted the bath bombs to be small so I could make a bunch of them affordably but also so that I could make multiple batches in different colors to gift together, so when I found mini bath bomb molds on Amazon, mini bath bomb trios were born! Not only did I get to do a variety of colors and scents but they are small enough that you can add them to a foot bath or mix and match in a regular bath!
I’ve packaged them in two styles with the same rectangular cellophane bags, some as favor trios and some as a mix of little candy inspired singlets, perfect for guests to pick their favorite to take home!
I’ll be taking some to baby sprinkles and showers this summer, but these beauties are perfect for so many styles of parties, that this simple and easy recipe is my go to for an easy spa themed favor for any event!
SUPPLIES
SUPPLIES LIST:
[Makes 8-9 Mini Bath Bombs in one color]
Bath Bomb Molds
Citric Acid– ½ cup
Epsom Salts – ½ cup
Baking Soda – 1 cup
Cornstarch– ½ cup
Powdered Dye - 2 tsp.
Essential Oil – 2 tsp
Vegetable Oil – 2 tsp
Water – 1 tsp
DIRECTIONS
1. Mix citric acid, Epsom salts, baking soda, powdered coloring and cornstarch into a mixing bowl. Mix water, vegetable oil and essential oil in a separate bowl. Then add to dry ingredients and mix well. I made three batches of this mixture, then dyed and scented each batch as follows:
Purple: 1 ½ tsp. lavender & ½ tsp. lemon
Pink: 1 ½ tsp. rose & ½ tsp. bergamot
Green: 1 tsp. jasmine & 1 tsp. sandalwood
2. Using the smallest of the molds, the 1.5”, pack the mixture into the mold. Press the two sides together and compress the mixture into a bath bomb. I always try to be more generous with mixture than less so that your bath bombs stay solid and I was able to get 8-9 bath bombs per batch.
3. Carefully remove the mold and smooth around the seam of your bath bomb with your fingers to form a sphere and you’re done!
If you find your bath bomb mixture isn’t wanting to stay together, you can add a couple drops of water or oil at a time and mix it with your hands, my mixture’s had the feel of cool sand when they were just right.
I usually like to have my bath bombs sit out overnight to harden up a little before packaging them, but its always good to handle them delicately!
I was nervous the first time I made these but it cured me of my fear because once you get the hang of it, bath bombs are so easy to make! They are great as party favors on their own or as the perfect addition to a gift bag with other spa themed favors like our posts below, so I encourage you to try making some yourself in your favorite scents!
