Don’t Say Baby Clothespin Game

See this content in the original post

It’s time for some classic baby shower game fun! While many of my games for my bestie's Blue Gingham BaByQ Shower were card games we started after the guests were settled in, the festivities started as soon as they walked in the door as they all grabbed clothespins and got ready for a shower game that spanned the shower and inspired some fun friendly competition, the Don’t Say Baby Clothespin Game!

If the name of the game didn’t give it away, there is one rule for this game, don’t say the word baby! Each guest started with a clothespin, then waited for any of their fellow party goers to say the forbidden word. If you caught someone saying it, you took their clothespin for your collection, and the person with the most at the end of the shower won a fabulous prize crafted by our lovely mother to be!

I made a dapper little sign for explaining the rules of the game to guests and as a place to store the clothespins for them to grab, and it went perfectly with my Simple Baby Shower Signs that I made for the couple’s guest book and gift table. As guests entered they could read the rules, grab a clothespin, and immediately sign the guestbook for the couple, before dropping off their gift and heading off for other baby shower games.

Like my other game cards and shower signs, I made this game’s sign in both a Blue Gingham Pattern for my friend’s BaByQ Shower and pink and purple sprinkles for my other besties Diaper Raffle Unicorn Sprinkle, so there’s two themes to pick from based on what you like best! This game is a simple and adorable addition to any baby shower, so print whichever sign fits your party best, grab some clothespins, and have your guests join in the fun too!

SUPPLIES

SIGN MAKING SUPPLIES:

Cardstock: for printing out your sign with the game instructions.

Construction Paper: to use as a back mat for your sign if your frame doesn’t cover up the margins of your sign if you are printing from home, like me!

Picture Frame: to frame your sign. I used 8.5” x 11” frames so I could print my signs on regular sized cardstock straight from the printer, but try to find one with a stand

Printer & Ink: to print out your sign at home. Of course, you can alway get it printed locally at a print shop, then simply put it in your picture frame without the extra steps.

Scissors: to trim around the unprinted margins of your signs, if you are printing them yourself and attaching them to construction paper backgrounds.

Double Sided Tape: to stick your sign to your construction paper mat.

OTHER GAME SUPPLIES:

Clothespins: for each of your guests to use to play the game. Make sure to have one clothespin for every guest attending, plus a few extra just in case!

Bowl or Jar: for holding the clothespins next to your framed sign.

A Prize for the Victor: My mother-to-be made our fabulous prizes, but I love using various DIY Candles or different Spa style gifts for my party games!

Prize for your Winner!

PART 1: PARTY PREP & SIGN PRINTING

1. Download the printable with the rules for the game in your favorite of the patterns, then print it to the best quality your printer can on cardstock.

2. Trim around the printer margin for your sign, then center and stick it to your construction paper using double sided tape. Place the sign into your frame and secure, then put your clothespins into a bowl for guests to grab.

PART 2: PARTY SETUP & HOW TO PLAY

Place your sign and bowl of clothespins on a table near the entrance to your party. Now, you’re all set up for when guests arrive! As guests arrive, indicate where they should grab clothespins and learn the rules of the game, then grab your own clothespin and start playing!

Have your guests play throughout the baby shower, with the rules being that anytime someone says the word baby, the first person to call them on it receives one clothespin from their collection. When you run out of clothespins, you can say baby, but can also steal someone’s pin who says it to get back in the game. The person with the most clothespins when your shower ends is the winner, and receives your prize!

For a quick, cute and easy game, this one can’t be beat! Our guests had lots of fun trying at a little good natured trickery and it turned out to be a great game for young and old! Make your own game for your next shower and watch your guests vie for victory, baby style!
