Cheesy Chip Savory Snack Mix
Now I could eat nothing but sweets all day long, but I know there are many, with my husband being among them, who adore their salty snacks above anything else! So while I designed two of my mixes to be sweet, I wanted to include a savory option too! While I’m not a huge chip person, if I eat salty snacks they are always cheesy, and with chex mix being a favorite from childhood, I did a mashup for this Cheesy Chip Savory Snack Mix!
Now when I was first testing ingredients for putting into this mix, the only thing I knew I wanted for sure was this new cracker chip from Cheezits, the Cheezit Snapp’d Cracker Chips. They have been my new favorite snack lately and their twisty shape both gave some fun fiery vibes for my Horoscope Hangover Bags and some good old fashioned bang for your buck volume, which I can always appreciate when making snack mix for a crowd. I paired these with some of the traditional Chex Mix ingredients, like Mini Pretzels and Chex Cereal but with Ranch Bugles giving a little extra kick. Finished with some Goldfish, another of my favorite cheesy crackers, I tossed it in some standard Chex Mix seasoning, baked it, and it turned out delightfully!
To pick this combination of ingredients, I’ll admit that I went up and down the snack aisle, gathered any cheesy chip or cracker I liked, any savory snack I thought might go with it, then brought them all home and started mixing them together and baking them in seasoning to decide what I liked best. It was a great method for Designing a Savory Snack Mix, but there were many bags of chips and snacks that did not make the cut, and hence became just regular snacks for my husband to eat.
For my Zodiac Summers Eve Party, I made this mix to be a fire themed savory snack option for guests and it perfectly complemented my earth themed Pretzel and Peanut Butter Mix as well as my air themed White Chocolate Kettle Corn Mix. While I used it for themed hangover bags, this cheesy mix is a great option for any wedding guest welcome bag, hangover bag, or just a mix for your guests to munch on at your next party. So mix up this batch of my favorite cheesy and salty snacks for your next movie night, party night, or as snack bags for your own party guests!
INGREDIENTS
BASE INGREDIENTS:
7 cups Cheezit Snapped Chips
4 ½ cups mixed Rice and Corn Chex
OTHER MIX INS:
2 cups Pretzels
2 cups Ranch Bugles
1 cup Goldfish
BAKING GLAZE:
6 oz Melted Butter
1 Chex Mix Seasoning Packets
PREPARATION
1. Start by mixing together the Chex and Cheezit Snapp’d, dividing into two large bowls if needed (I needed too). Add the Pretzels, Bugles, and Goldfish to the mixture, dividing between the bowls equally if necessary and tossing to combine.
2. Mix together the melted butter and Chex mix seasoning, then toss to coat the snack mix. Divide the coated mix between 2 baking trays and bake at 250 F for 1 ½ hours, tossing the mix twice during the bake. Lay out on paper towels to cool (I just lined unused baking sheets with them and transferred the mix to the new sheet to cool).
3. Once cooled, it is time to serve or package your snack mix.
TO SERVE IN A BOWL: transfer mix to bowl and enjoy! Makes aprx. 16 cups
TO SERVE IN BAGS: For every favor bag (assuming your bag holds aprx. 1 ½ cup of mix), add 1 ½ cups of the mixture, shaking the bag to settle the mix and then close with a twist tie. Makes aprx. 12 - 1 ½ cup favor bags per recipe
There are many ways you can package snack mixes, but for this set I love to use these Cellophane Bags from Wilton, with their size being the closest I could find online to the bags I bought in the store, with these ones just fitting about 1 cup each. After the first couple bags I measured to be safe, I could stuff without measuring in the rest and instead used gloved hands to transfer it into the bags. Each batch made about 18 - 1 cup bags or 12 - 1 ½ cup bags.
Other great packaging options for this mix include:
Cone Shaped Cellophane Bags: These don’t limit you to the amount of mix you want to give and can still be used with our cute Vellum Overlay Snack Mix Tags.
Kraft Tin Tie Window Bags: These rustic cuties come in a variety of sizes depending on how much mix you want to give each guest, being easily labelled with cute stickers like the ones from Evermine.
There are so many different packaging options out there, I encourage you to explore and find a unique one that works for you!.
