American Cake in a Jar

Happy day after the fourth of July to all! All the fourth of July cakes inspired these little beauties that I gave away as favors yesterday and they turned out to be perfect. I always seem to be cooking too much food for my parties so no one has room for dessert, but everyone was excited to take them home!

To start I used two Pillsbury cake mixes, dying one red and keeping one white. I spread each into a 9 by 13" cookie sheet, baking at 350 F for 15-18 minutes.

Using a 2 1/2" cookie cutter, I cut 24 "discs" of each color, then layer each disc in the jars one by one to create the stripes of the flag.

I finished each cake with a swirl of blue icing and the flag cakes were done! I added a patriotic napkin over the lids for a festive flair as shown on the back jar. Leave any questions in the comments and I hope everyone had a wonderful fourth!
